After Worlds last year, Karthik and I had a heart-to-heart about what was next. It quickly became clear that we were aligned - we both wanted to keep pushing forward, refining our products, growing “alternatives”, and aiming for the next Singapore title. Instead of taking a break, Karthik stayed on the grind while we focused on elevating our designs in preparation for our first tri-material yo-yo.

Months of refinement later, the UNLOCK was born. Built to support Karthik’s entirely new trick set, it’s powerful, stable, and extremely forgiving on stage. We also designed the UNLOCK to be as durable as possible, minimizing the ‘unplayable vibes’ that tri-material yo-yos often develop after the first ding. There’s nothing we would change about the UNLOCK - to us, it’s perfect.

UNPRLD edition UNLOCK

Karthik: During my first visit to the US National contest last year, when I met Tyler and the UNPRLD team, it felt like meeting a long-lost friend. After years of talking online, we finally met - and the rest was history. Staying up all night with the homies and exploring Vegas together became one of my core memories. I’m forever appreciative of them for being so welcoming and for treating me like family from day one. Super stoked for the opportunity to collaborate on a colorway with UNPRLD.

Tyler: After hearing so much about Jim and the Alt team, I was so happy to finally be able to meet Karthik at the 2025 National yoyo contest. The warmth that he had made me feel like I had known him all my life, and truly showed what southeast Asian kindness was like. It’s my privilege to be asked to choose a colorway for his signature yoyo the UNLOCK.
